Andean Plying

Andean plying is a great method to ply from both ends of your spun cop. This method leaves no unplied yardage at the end and can be done anywhere, since you don't need any tools other than your own hand! Make sure not to wrap the yarn too tightly around your hand as it builds up tension as you go.

1. Tuck the end of your yarn under your armpit.

2. Begin wrapping the yarn around the back of your wrist across the palm and around your middle finger.

3. Continue wrapping back in the direction from which the yarn came, then around the back of the wrist.

4. Come up the palm from the other side, wrap around the middle finger.

5. Then wrap back around the back of the wrist in the direction from which the yarn came.

6. Continue on this way going around from one side, around the middle finger, back and then around from the other side until all yarn is wrapped around the wrist.

7. Slip the middle finger out from the yarn, leaving the yarn around the wrist.

8. Take both ends of the yarn, attach to the spindle and begin to ply!
