Jan's Kundert Spindle:
Letters to the Editor

To the Editor, Spindlicity:

I received the Kundert 1.3 oz. carved maple spindle that I won in Spindlicity's Dec. 12 prize drawing. What a graceful piece of fine woodworking, and what a wonderful spinning tool! I am proud and honored to be its owner.

This spindle just shines with fine craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Its restrained carvings complement the classic American wood, and the maple whorl has been polished to a delicate satin glow. I've been spinning Targhee and Wensleydale on it. It spins smooth and easy, from fine yarn to soft, thick, even singles. I'm especially impressed with how Mr. Kundert has shaped the walnut shaft. The tapered top guides the yarn into a balanced, well-shaped cop, while the small knob at the tip makes the shaft turn so easy in the hand that the yarn seems to wind itself onto the shaft! This beautiful tool makes every aspect of spinning a genuine pleasure.

I've enclosed a couple of pictures of the spindle, nestled in Targhee roving.

Thank you, Spindlicity, and thank you Mr. Kundert for your generous support of the handspindling community.

Sincerely,
Jan Clark
