Natural Knits for Babies and Moms
Beautiful Designs Using Organic Yarns
by Louisa Harding

Interweave Press, Loveland, CO. 2006
ISBN 13:978-1-59668-010-4

The author has designed twenty-one garments, accessories and toys for mom and her new baby's first eighteen months. Harding says that this collection was inspired by a trip to the States and an introduction to the locally produced handspun organic fiber. Included in this collection are two unusual, yet practical sweaters for mom. The first is what she calls "Bump Sweater" which is shaped using short rows to accommodate that ever growing pregnant tummy. The other is a clever cabled sweater with discrete buttoned side panels that allow for nursing. There are some very cute, yet practical, sweaters, booties, hats and a blanket that look simple enough for even the newest knitter to tackle. The directions are clearly written and there are many close-up photographs of the details to give the knitter a clear idea of the look of the actual garment. Thoughtfully included in the back of the book are a glossary of terms and techniques and a list of abbreviations used in the patterns. A very nice alternative to some of the more complicated baby garment patterns currently out there.
