Dixon Lambtown is an up and coming festival that takes place in Dixon, California. There were sheep dog contests, music, sheep and goat judging, sheep to shawl contest, and lamb cookoff. The lamb cookoff was delectable, I had some kind of lamb shish kabob that was melt-in-your-mouth good.

Of course, the best part was the fiber barn chock full of fiber vendors! This year the fiber barn was open both Friday and Saturday for shopping. I had a great time looking around at all the wonderful fibers, and spindles, naturally. The spindle highlight was the giant array of luscious spindles at the Carolina Homespun booth, and the charming proprietor, Morgaine, who is always ready to help you decide on the perfect purchase. I came away with a set of combs and two spindles after swearing to myself I was "only observing." I also found some great mohair fleeces, a wonderful rocking chair (I'm buying one of those someday), lovely Sari Silk, some great sheep cards that were handmade, and soap! Nothing better than handmade soap to clean you up after a day at the animal pens.

The weather cooperated nicely and a gentle breeze wafted through the fiber barn as the spinning contests got underway. Particularly hilarious was the long-distance spinning! One person treadled a spinning wheel, whilst the other person acted as the "bobbin" holding on to the spun yarn and backing up! They had to go all the way across the barn before a winner was declared. Yarns kept breaking and bobbin partners had to go chasing them.

Ahh… the contentment of a good fiber festival. Now where's my calendar, I gotta find the next festival!
